this thing was winding me up like a bad movie last night, thanks Jesse Skinner for your article; cheered me up bigtime ;-)

Using PHP's empty() Instead of isset() and count()

isset() - Determine whether a variable is set
unset() - Unset a given variable
array_key_exists() - Checks if the given key or index exists in the array
count() - Count all elements in an array, or properties in an object
strlen() - Get string length
